A Russian company has gone to Argentina to increase its supply of caviar.

The Sturgeon & Caviar company has set up ponds for sturgeon breeding in the Argentine northern town of Anillaco.

The Russian company is already established in neighbouring Uruguay, where it has been breeding the sturgeon in captivity for almost five years

The upcoming Argentinian project will see the company in the country with a fifteen year contract for the concession on the fish farm plant.

The Russians have said they are hoping to achieve a ten ton annual production of caviar.

The first sturgeon eggs are expected to arrive from Russia within the next 30 days.

Most of the world’s sturgeon is fished in the Caspian Sea, but catches have been diminishing, with the sturgeon declared a species at risk of extinction.
